A casi todos nos leyeron cuentos en nuestra infancia: cuentos de aventura, fábulas y hasta de terror. Una forma excelente, para los escritores, de desahogar los inventos más locos de su imaginación (al menos, así lo describe mi primo hermano, Marcos). Marcos adoptó este interesante pasatiempo y quiso ayudar a otros a ver lo fabuloso que puede ser el convertir en realidad tus sueños, aunque sea en papel.
Así fue como en Mayo del 2007, organizamos un "Taller de Cuentos" para un pequeño grupo de niños en la Fundación de Amigos de los Niños con Leucemia y Cancer (FANLYC), algunos en quimioterapia y diversos tratamientos, otros en recuperación. Dispuestos a pasarla bien y divertirnos, mi primo y yo adoptamos un personaje fantástico; yo el de "pirata" y mi primo el de "luchador". Siempre recordaré sus caras al vernos con los disfraces!
Iniciamos con la parte teórica, explicando un poco sobre las partes del cuento, gramática y luego la parte práctica, en dónde cada niño debía escribir e ilustrar su historia. La inspiración que produjo esta vivencia para mí inció cuando me tocó revisar y dirigir a cada niño en su trabajo.
Una adolescente, en quimioterapia, de 13 o 14 años iniciaba su historia: "Anita va aun 'sarao' (baile) y se pone un vestido violeta, con sus tacones y tiene cabello rojo, bien largo y rizado. Ella se voltea y ve a Pedrito, el chico que le gusta..."
Un niño de 10 años escribía: "Juanito quiere ser un futbolista famoso y hacer muchos goles, pero está enfermo..."
Ambos me preguntaban: "Y qué pongo ahora? Cómo termino?" a lo que respondí: "Qué quieres que pase después? Recuerda que tú eres el dueño y creador de este cuento. Puedes hacer que pase lo que quieras!". Dicho esto, veía un brillo de alegría inmediata en sus ojos y continuaban escribiendo con más emoción para llegar al gran final.
La niña terminaba su narración: "En el 'sarao' ponen una canción que le gusta a Anita. Juanito se acerca y la invita a bailar. Anita está emocionada porque después le pide su teléfono para invitarla al cine al día siguiente". El niño, por su parte, escribe: "Juanito se cura de su enfermedad y se convierte en una super estrella de fútbol y hace goles a miles de metros de distancia de la portería. También hace 'chilenas' más altas queOliver en la cómica Super Campeones!".
Al analizar la experiencia con mi primo, nos percatamos que estos cuentos eran el reflejo
de los deseos del corazón de cada niño y me esmeré en recalcarles, tantas veces como pude (repitiéndomelo también a mí misma), que la vida es como un cuento... la vida es TU cuento. Tienes el poder de hacer todo lo que quieras con él. Tú eres el único responsable de escribirlo; de las aventuras que vivas, del camino que recorrerás. Hice más énfasis aún al decirles: "Nunca dejes que nadie te diga que no puedes. Si tu imaginación puede concebir la idea, entonces puedes alcanzarla y convertirla en realidad".
Al llegar a mi casa, medité por un tiempo. Comenté a mi familia que no pensé que al ir a un Taller de Cuentos, viviría una experiencia tan bonita en dónde yo no sería la maestra de los niños, si no al revés!
Amigos: Todo es posible! Hay que pensar positivo y ser dueños de nuestros pensamientos y nuestra mente que, en mi opinión, es lo único que separa a un cuento de la realidad.

We started with the theory part; explaining a little about the tale's part, grammar and then the practical part, in which each kid had to write and illustrate their story. The inspiration that this experience produced started when I had to check and lead each child in their task.
A teenager, in quimiotheraphy, started her story: "Anita goes to a dance and she wears a purple dress, with high hills and she has red, very long and curled hair. She turns around and sees Pedrito, the boy she likes..."
A 10 year-old boy wrote: "Juanito wants to be a famous soccer player and score many goals, but he's sick..."
Both asked: "What do I write next? How do I end my story?" and I replied: "What do you want to happen next? Remember that you're the only owner and creator of this tale. You can make anything happen!". This being said, I saw a spark of immediate joy in their eyes and they continued writing with more excitement to get to the great ending.
The teenager ended her narration: "They're playing a song that Anita likes. Pedrito comes close and asks her to dance. Anita is very excited because Pedrito asked her phone number to take her to the movies on the next day." The boy, on his side, wrote: "Juanito's is not sick anymore and becomes a soccer super star who scores thousand of goals from many meters away. He also makes higher 'chilenas' thanOliver of the 'Super Champions' cartoon!" (a famous Chinese anime in Panamá).
When my cousin and I analyzed the experience, we realized that these tales
were a reflection of the each child's wish, and I tried to highlight, as many times as possible (repeating it to myself too), that life is like a tale... life is your tale. You have the power to make anything you want with it. You're the responsible of writing it; of the adventures you'll live, the path you'll walk. I made more emphasis on telling: "Never let anyone tell you that you can't. If your imagination can conceive an idea, then you can reach it and make it a reality".
When I got home, I meditated for a while. I told my family that I never thought that I would live such a beautiful experience in this Tale Workshop, where I wouldn't be the children's teacher, but the opposite!
Friends: Everything is possible! We have to think positive and own our thoughts and our mind, that, in my opinion, is the only thing that separates a tale from reality.
